Holiday Traditions

SANTA.jpeg

Santa exists and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

My ten-year-old daughter complained that kids in school do not believe in Santa anymore. I answered her that I felt sorry for the children who are already beginning to take the fantasy out of their lives. There is so much time for that…lots of time to grow up.

How traditions begin and how they endure are wonderful stories in themselves. Need to brush up on some history? THIS is the story of Santa.

Science is now discovering that our brain will fill in the blanks and color-in the areas of stories that we wish were true, no matter how absurd. Through generations these stories continue, becoming the things of legends, superstitions, traditions and more.

How’s this for the story of flying reindeers: Did 'Shrooms Send Santa And His Reindeer Flying?

Our Jesse family tradition is for each one of us to open one present that is already under the tree on Christmas Eve (usually it is something ridiculous to wear the next day.) Then, before going to bed we put a bowl of chili and chips by the fireplace (along with a beer) for Santa…and some carrots for the reindeer. Our daughter a few years back said: “Don’t you think Santa is sick of all those cookies? I bet he would love some of Dad’s chili and a beer! Yes, this is the stuff of legends….

Hugs and many ho, ho, hos to all!
