The Wearing of the Green
Once a year we celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the “Wearing of the Green.” On this spring day, it is customary to wear shamrocks, and green clothing or accessories.
As the story goes, it is said that St. Patrick used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to his Irish converts. This tale first appears in a written account in 1726, though it may be much older.
St. Patrick’s Day is always observed on the actual calendar date of March 17th, unlike Easter, which varies from year to year.
The wearing of the 'St Patrick's Day Cross' is a popular custom in Ireland. The St. Patrick’s Day Cross draws its inspiration from a Celtic Christian cross. The St. Patty's version is made of paper, covered with ribbon of different colors, and decorated with rosettes of green silk.
