Cindy Lou Who

I have always been a huge Dr. Seuss fan, and none more so than for his epic work The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. In all his works Dr. Seuss crafted enduring life lessons that transcend generations. Themes such as giving, humility, tolerance, persistence, kindness, and bravery were present in so many of his stories.

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas became my favorite because it exemplifies the incorruptibility of Christmas. When the Whos awake to bare homes on Christmas morning, they still come together to hold hands, sing, and share the spirit of Christmas. And as the book reads, "Maybe Christmas,' he thought, 'doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"

When I reflect on my work at BuDhaGirl, and the fact that I need to sell products to keep our message of setting intentions vibrant so in turn we can give jobs, help our partners both for-profit and non-for-profit, and change the world one BuDhaGirl at a time, I worry about sounding commercial and off message, especially at Christmas.

Every time I bring this up to my team, or my sounding board (my husband, Bill) I am met with big smiles. They look at me with recognition that I do believe in what I am saying and have created at BuDhaGirl. That I live every day with presence, in awe of nature, always trying to be compassionate, trying to be giving, learning how to forgive, and staying curious. It is not always easy because the world is cynical of the fact that we do have to reconnect not only with others, but more importantly with ourselves.

We do have to turn our routines into rituals. This is my message.

Dr. Seuss found great success in writing books and then brought them to market so he could teach us invaluable lessons. I hope BuDhaGirl finds success in delivering our message through the sale of our products, that are not only beautiful but all have daily rituals to remind us to always BE IT.

Merry Christmas…

Hugs to all,

Jessica
