'Emerge'

I think of Bard’s infinitely recognizable line “To be or not to be…”, when I think of the word emerge, because emerge is about being, about becoming. Emerge’s Latin root is untouched through time, it was emerge then, as it is emerge now, it is a word that transcends time.

Emerging as a verb actions birth and creation, nature consistently shows us this magical process from day into night, from birth to death. Emerging can also be non-physical, as our thoughts and ideas emerge in our minds, and feelings emerge in our hearts.

The wonder is that we, as conscious and sentient beings, can choose how we emerge and how we react to emerging. Sometimes, the act of emerging is difficult, perhaps taking us through a period of darkness, only to then be gifted with light. Wise men and women through history have emerged from dire circumstances to become beacons of hope to us all; they chose how to react to their circumstances; they chose to emerge from their situations with dignity and integrity. They chose to be.

We too can emerge. We can take the gifts we have been granted…our life, our health, our wealth, our ability to work and put these to good use. We can emerge as people who care about how we live each and every day and are aware that our intentions define our outcomes.

Our incredible power of choice can emerge into something spectacular, something that just by “us” deciding that “we”, “I” will make a difference. It is by the very process of our decisions that we will emerge into what we will become. So, will you decide to be, or not to be?
